    Gypsum is:

    A) \[CaS{{O}_{4}}\cdot 2{{H}_{2}}O\]

    B) \[CaS{{O}_{4}}\cdot \frac{1}{2}{{H}_{2}}O\]

    C)  \[MgS{{O}_{4}}\cdot 2{{H}_{2}}O\]

    D) \[CuS{{O}_{4}}\]

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

Gypsum is hydrated calcium sulphate.                 \[CaS{{O}_{4}}\cdot 2{{H}_{2}}O\] Gypsum when heated strongly loses whole of its water of hydration. It does not set like plaster of Paris and so, gypsum is said to be dead burnt.
