Which of the following rays can be polarised?

    A) Water wave and sound wave

    B) Sound wave and radio wave

    C) \[X-\]rays and water wave

    D) Light wave and \[X-\] ray

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

Key Idea: Only transverse waves can be polarised. Light waves and \[X-\]rays are transverse, hence the vibrations of the electric vector must occur in a plane perpendicular to the direction of propagation of light and hence, give rise to polarised light. Note: Longitudinal waves cannot be polarised.
