  • question_answer
Calculate the resulting molarity of the solution that is obtained by adding 5 g of\[NaOH\]to 250 mL of\[\frac{M}{4}\]\[NaOH\]solution (density =1.05 g \[c{{m}^{-3}}\]). The density of the resulting solution is 1.08 g\[c{{m}^{-3}}\].

    A)  0.41 M

    B)  0.56 M

    C)  0.63 M

    D)  0.76 M

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

                    250 mL of\[\frac{M}{4}NaOH\]contains \[=\frac{40}{4}\times \frac{250}{1000}g\] \[=2.5\,g\,NaOH\] Mass of 250 mL of\[NaOH\]solution \[=v\times d\] \[=250\text{ }mL\times 1.05\text{ }gc{{m}^{-3}}=262.5\text{ }g\] After adding 5 g\[NaOH,\]mass of solute\[=7.5\text{ }g\] and solution\[=267.5\text{ }g\] Volume of new solution\[=\frac{267.5}{1.08}=247.7\,mL\] \[=0.2477\text{ }L\] Molarity\[=\frac{7.5}{40}mol\times \frac{1}{0.2477L}=0.76\,M\]
