Which of the following combination will form an electrovalent bond?

    A)  P and\[Cl\]

    B) \[N{{H}_{3}}\]and\[B{{F}_{3}}\]

    C)  H and \[Ca\]

    D)  H and \[S\]

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

Key Idea: The electrovalent bond is formed between atoms which have difference in electronegativity more than 1.7. One of the atoms should be electron donor while other should be electron acceptor. (i) P and\[Cl\]and H and S form covalent bond among them because the difference in their electronegativity is less than 1.7. (ii)\[N{{H}_{3}}\]and\[B{{F}_{3}}\]form coordinate bond as N in \[N{{H}_{3}}\]donates electrons to B in\[B{{F}_{3}}\]. (iii) H and\[Ca\]form ionic bond because the difference in their electronegativity is more than 1.7.
