For the reaction \[A\xrightarrow{{}}B\], the rate expression is \[r=k{{[A]}^{n}}\]. When the concentration of A is doubled, the rate of reaction is quadrupled. The value of n is

    A)  \[1\]

    B)  zero

    C)  \[3\]

    D)  \[2\]

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

Rate law is       \[r=k{{[A]}^{n}}\]           ...(i) When concentration is doubled then \[4r=k{{[2A]}^{n}}\]               ...(ii) Dividing Eq. (ii) by Eq. (i)                 \[4={{2}^{n}}\]                 \[{{(2)}^{2}}={{2}^{n}}\] \[\therefore \]  \[n=2\]
