    The population of a town is 155625. Forever 1000 males there are 1075 females. If 40% of the males and 24% of the females are literate, find the percentage of literacy in the town.

    Solution :

    Ans.     Suppose total number of moles are 1000x and total number of females are 1075x. \[\therefore \]    \[1000x+1075x=155625\] \[2075x=155625\] \[x=\frac{155625}{2075}=75\] \[\therefore \] Total number of males\[=1000\times 75=75000\] and total number of females = 155625 - 75000 = 80625 Total literate males \[=\frac{40}{100}\times 75000\] \[=40\times 750=30000\] Total literate female \[=\frac{24}{100}\times 80625\] Total literate person = 19350 + 30000 = 49350 Percentage of literacy \[=\frac{49350}{155625}\times 100=31.71%\]
