CET Karnataka Engineering CET - Karnataka Engineering Solved Paper-2008

  • question_answer
A body weighs 50 gin air and 40 gin water. How much would it weigh in a liquid of specific gravity 1.5?

    A)  30 g

    B)  35 g

    C)  65 g

    D)  45 g

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

                    \[\frac{{{\sigma }_{L}}}{{{\sigma }_{w}}}=\frac{upthrust\text{ }on\text{ }body\text{ }in\text{ }liquid}{upthrust\text{ }on\text{ }body\text{ }in\text{ }water}\]                 \[\frac{1.5}{1}=\frac{x}{[50-40]\,g}\] \[\Rightarrow \]               \[x=15\,g\] \[\therefore \] uptrust on body in liquid = 15 g Weight of the body = 50 g Hence, body will weigh \[(50-15)=35\text{ }g\] in the liquid.
