Layers of an ovum from outside to inside is

    A)  corona radiata, zoria pellucida and vitelline membrane

    B)  zona pellucida, corona radiata and vitelline membrane

    C)  vitelline membrane, zona pellucida and corona radiata

    D)  zona pellucida, vitelline membrane and corona radiate

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

Human ovum is noncleidoic (ie, without shell), alecithal (ie, yolk remain absent) and microscopic. The cytoplasm is enveloped by cell membrane (plasma membrane), the membrane forming die surface layer of an ovum is called the vitelline membrane. This is surrounded by inner thick, non-cellular zona pellucida, probably secreted by the follicular cells and outer very thick cellular corona radiata, which is formed of radially elongated follicular cells. Perivitelline space is present between the zona pellucida and plasma membrane.
