    A nucleoside is

    A)  purine/pyramidine + phosphate

    B)  purine/pyramidine + sugar

    C)  pyramidine + purine + phosphate

    D)  purine + sugar + phosphate

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

A combination of nitrogen base (purine/pyrimidine) with a pentose sugar (deoxyribose/ribose) is known as nucleoside. The nucleoside combines with phosphate group to form the nucleotide. The nucleotides by polymerisation form the nucleic acid (DNA or RNA). The nitrogen base combines with the pentose sugar molecules at its carbon atom-1 by glycosidic bond. Depending upon pentose sugar nucleosides are differentiated into ribonucleoside and deoxyribo- nucleoside.
