In 28 days human ovarian cycle, the ovulation takes place typically on

    A)  day 1st of cycle

    B)  day 6th of cycle

    C)  day 10th of cycle

    D)  day 14th of cycle

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

Menstrual cycle is the cyclic periods of 28 days duration in reproduction of human females. This cycle consists of three phases: (i) Repair or resting phase (ii) Proliferation phase (iii) Leutal phase. Gonadotropin releasing factor (GnRF) secreted by the hypothalamus stimulates the anterior pituitary to release of follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH). These stimulate the ovarian follicles to produce more oestrogen during proliferative phase. Just prior to ovulation the high level of oestrogen inhibit GnRF production. Ovulation takes place on 14th day of menstrual cycle.
