This cycle consists of three phases: (i) Repair or resting phase (ii) Proliferation phase (iii) Leutal phase. Gonadotropin releasing factor (GnRF) secreted by the hypothalamus stimulates the anterior pituitary to release of follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH). These stimulate the ovarian follicles to produce more oestrogen during proliferative phase. Just prior to ovulation the high level of oestrogen inhibit GnRF production.
