Green revolution is the rapid increase in agricultural production (especially wheat and rice) during 1960-1970. In march 1963 Dr. N.E. Borlaug visited India on the invitation of Dr. B.P. Pal (Director of IARI) and sent a wide range of material in September 1963. After obtaining semi-dwarf wheat material from Maxico India initiated the following five prolonged strategy for breeding a wide range of high yielding varities possessing a broad spectrum of resistance to major biotic and abiotic stresses. Chipko movement was born in March 1973 in Gopeshwar in Chamoli district by Sunder Lal Bahuguna. H. Reiter used the term ecology for the first time in 1868.
