    Guard cellcontrols :

    A)  intensity of light entering

    B)  photosynthesis

    C)  closing and opening of stomata

    D)  change in green colour

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

Stomata are minute pore complexes found mainly in the epidermis of leaves. Each stomata is surrounded by two small but specialized green epidermal cells called guard cells. There walls are differentially thickened and elastic. They control opening and closing of stomata. Photosynthesis takes place in photosynthetic unit (quantasome) which occur in thylakoids of chloroplasts. The stomata also help in exchange of gases i.e., \[C{{O}_{3}}\] and \[{{O}_{2}}\] during photosynthesis and respiration secondarily. The light intensity varies with latitude altitude, season, topography, humidity etc. A point in light intensity where there is no gaseous exchange in photosynthesis is called light - compensation point.
