Bacteria are prokaryotic, microscopic, unicellular cell wall bearing organisms which contain bacteriochlorophyll. Majority of the bacteria multiply by transverse binary fission, in which a single cell divided into two equal sized cells by developing a cell wall. The formation of spores is called sporulation. Cells of certain bacteria e.g., Clostridium, Bacillus, Sporosarcina and Thermoactinomyces form thick-walled highly resistant bodies with in the cell called endospores.
