They lie immediately behind the incisors. [c] Premolars: Two premolars occur next to the canines in each half of a jaw. Upper premolars are lodged in maxillary and lower in dentary bones. [d] Molars: The molars are three in each half of the jaw. These are also of lodged in maxillary and dentary bones. Both premolars and molars are used to crush and grind the food.
