Contraception mediated by sex hormones is a normal monthly phenomenon in the human female. Progesterone produced by the corpus luteum suppresson the further ovulation by inhibiting the release of FSH. Oral contraceptives for woman contain progesterone, which prevents ovulation by suppressing FSH secretion. Luteinizing Hormone (LH) is secreted from anterior pituitary. It stimulates testosterone synthesis in Leydig cells of testes, stimulates ovulation, formation of corpus luteum and estrogen and progesterone synthesis in ovaries. GH (Growth Hormone) is also secreted from anterior pituitary, which stimulates protein synthesis and over all growth of most cells and tissues. Thyroxine hormone is secreted from thyroid gland and increases the rate of chemical reaction in most cells thus increasing body metabolic rate.
