When a bus suddenly takes a turn, the passengers are thrown outwards because of:

    A)  speed of motion

    B)  inertia of motion

    C)  acceleration of motion

    D)  none of the above

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

Inertia is defined as the resistance of an object to a change in velocity. There are two types of inertia; inertia of motion and inertia of rest. Till time bus is moving with uniform velocity, but when it takes a sudden turn the velocity changes, but body of passengers is still under influence of previous velocity, hence due to inertia of motion body offers resistance to this sudden change of velocity hence, passengers are thrown outwards.
