    A)  apical meristem

    B)  lateral meristem

    C)  dermatogen

    D)  plerome

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

Primary growth is the result of apical meristem. The apical meristem is terminal in position in root and shoot apices. Lateral meristem is responsible for lateral growth of plant i.e., growth in thickness e.g., cambium and cork cambium. According to histogen concept of root and shoot apices developed by Hanstein. There are three embryonic zone in shoot apices and four in root apices called histogens. The dermatogen is the outermost histogen that forms epidermis. The plerome is the innermost histogen which forms stele and pith.
