    Plasmodium falciparum causes malignant tertain malaria. It has high death rate because infected RBCs usually clump together and block capillary blood circulation in organs like brain, lungs, heart, spleen etc. Plasmodium malariae caused quartan malaria. It generally leads to secondary complications   because of large scale destruction of young RBCs. Plasmodium ovale and P. vivax cause benign tertain malaria. It has low death rate because merozoits generally invade and destroy old and mature RBCs.
