    Abscisic acid controls:

    A) cell elongation and cell wall formation

    B)  shoot elongation

    C)  leaf fall and dormancy

    D)  cell division

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

Abscisic acid functions as general growth inhibitor by counteracting auxin, gibberellin and cytokinin or reactions mediated by them. Therefore, it keeps the activity of auxin, gibberellin and cytokinin under control. Abscisic acid induce dormancy of seed and bud. The buds as well as seeds sprout only when abscisic acid is overcome by gibberellin. Excessive presence of abscisic acid stops protein and RNA synthesis and hence, stimulates senescence and leaf fall. Cell elongation and cell wall formation (cytokinesis) are the characteristic of auxin and cytokinin respectively.
