The metal ion involved in stomatal regulation is:

    A)  Fe

    B)  Mg

    C)  Zn

    D)  K

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

Change in turgor pressure of guard cell is the result of reversible absorption and loss of potassium \[({{K}^{+}})\] in the guard cell thus it regulate the stomatal movement. Fe (iron) is present in cytochromes and ferredoxin. It is also a component in various flavoproteins catalases and peroxidases. It is needed in chlorophyll synthesis. Mg is a component of chlorophyll and important binding substance for ribosomal subunits. It also acts as activator for several enzymes. Zn is needed by the plant in the biosynthesis of chlorophyll and indole 3-acetic acid. It also acts as enzyme activator.
