The straight line whose sum of the intercepts on the axes is equal to half of the product of the intercepts, passes through the point:

    A)  (1, 1)

    B)         (2, 2)

    C)         (3, 3)

    D)         (4, 4)

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

Given, the sum of intercepts of straight line\[=\frac{1}{2}\times \] the product of intercepts. Let a and b be the intercepts made by the straight line on the axes.                 \[\therefore \]  \[a+b=\frac{ab}{2}\]                 \[\Rightarrow \]               \[\frac{2a+2b}{ab}=1\]                 \[\Rightarrow \]               \[\frac{2}{a}+\frac{2}{b}=1\] On comparing with \[\frac{x}{a}+\frac{y}{b}=1,\] we get \[x=2,\,y=2\] The required point is\[(2,2).\] Hence, straight line passes through the point \[(2,2).\]
