A bomb is dropped from an aeroplane moving horizontally at constant speed. If air resistance is taken into consideration, then the bomb:

    A)  falls on earth exactly below the aeroplane

    B)  falls on the earth exactly behind the aeroplane

    C)  falls on the earth ahead of the aeroplane

    D)  flies with the aeroplane

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

Key Idea: Air resistance will decrease the horizontal component of velocity of bomb. The various forces acting on the aeroplane are its weight and air resistance. Since, aeroplane is flying in horizontal direction, air resistance will be opposite to its direction of motion. Hence, horizontal component of velocity will decrease, because of which bomb will fall on earth behind the aeroplane.
