Binding of ATP to myosin required the cofactor

    A)  Mg

    B)  Na

    C)  K

    D)  Ca.

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

:\[C{{a}^{2+}}\]is involved in the initiation of contraction of smooth muscle and also in skeletal muscle. However, visceral smooth muscle generally has a poorly developed sarcoplasmic reticulum, and the increase in intracellular\[C{{a}^{2+}}\]concentration is due primarily to\[C{{a}^{2+}}\]influx from the ECF. The\[C{{a}^{2+}}\]binds to calmodulin, and the resulting complex activates calmodulin-dependent myosin light chain kinase. This enzyme catalyses the phosphorylation of the myosin light chain, which allows the myosin ATPase to be activated, and actin slides on myosin, producing contraction.
