During megasporogenesis after first phase of meiosis the micropylar dyad cell degenerates while the chalazal one undergoes 2nd phase or meiosis producing 2 megaspores which take part in the development of female gametophyte. This type of female gametophyte development is known as

    A)  Adoxa type

    B)  Allium type

    C)  Endymion type

    D)  Oenothera type.

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

: On the basis of the number of megaspores taking part in the development of embryo sac, the number of divisions occurring in the nucleus of the functional megaspore and organization of nuclei in the mature embryo sac. The embryo sac is of the following types - Monosporic-Develops from a single megaspore, all the nuclei present are genetically alike. Two types are polygonum type and oenothera type. Bisporic - Develops from one of the two dyads of megaspore mother cell. One of the dyads degenerates. Both the nuclei of the functional dyad take-part in the formation of embryo sac. Two types are-Allium type (develops from chalazal dyad) and endymion type (develops from micropylar dyad). Tetrasporic - Four nuclei take part in the formation of embryo sac. Several types -Adoxa, Plumbago, Penaea, Peperomia, Drusa, Fri tilI aria, and Plumbage I la.
