Consider     the     nuclear     reaction\[{{X}^{200}}\to {{Y}^{100}}+{{Z}^{90}}+\]energy. If the binding energies per nucleon for the nuclei X, Y and Z are 7.4 MeV, 8.2 MeV and 8.2 MeV respectively the energy released, in MeV, is

    A)  200

    B)  160

    C)  110

    D)  90

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

    : Total energy of \[X=200\times 7.4\text{ }MeV\] Total energy of\[Y=110\times 8.2\text{ }MeV\] Total energy of\[Z=90\times 8.2\text{ }MeV\] \[\therefore \]\[(200\times 7.4)=(110\times 8.2)+(90\times 8.2)+Energy\] \[\therefore \]\[-Energy=(110\times 8.2)+(90\times 8.2)-(200\times 7.4)\] \[=8.2(110+90)-200\times 7.4\] \[=200\times 8.2-200\times 7.4=200(8.2-7.4)\] \[=200\times 0.8\] \[\therefore \]\[-Energy=160\]MeV.
