    Solution :

    The tension is same in two segments
    For B the equation is
    \[(40\times 9.8-T)=40\,a\] ...(1)
    For C the equation is  
    \[(T-50\times 9.8\times \frac{1}{2})=50\,a\] ...(2)
    From equation (1) and (2) \[a=1.63\text{ }m/{{s}_{2}}\] distance of fall
    \[S=\frac{1}{2}a{{t}^{2}}=\frac{1}{2}\times 1.63\times {{4}^{2}}=13.04\,m\]
