Lightning and thunder takes place simultaneously in sky and at the same distance from us. Lightning is seen earlier and thunder is heard later. Why?

    Answer:

As speed of sound is very less than the speed of light (speed of sound 332 m/sec. and speed of light \[3\times {{10}^{8}}\text{ }m/sec.),\]so light moves much faster than sound. So, we first observe the lightening and later we observe the thunder although both are produced simultaneously.
