    A biosphere reserve is a voluntary, cooperative, conservation reserve created to protect the biological and cultural diversity of a region while promoting sustainable economic development. It is a place of cooperation, education and experimentation, where scientists and managers can share research data for better understanding of man's impact on nature, and where local communities, environmental groups, and economic interests can work collaboratively on conservation and development issues. A biosphere reserve is a very large conservation area, which is divided into three zones core zone, buffer zone and transition zone. Core zone is the innermost zone of a biosphere reserve. It is devoted to strict protection of wildlife and no human activity for economic purpose is allowed in this zone. Buffer zone is the middle zone of a biosphere reserve. It surrounds the core zone. In this zone limited human activity is allowed and it may be used for cooperative activities compatible with sound ecological practices, including environmental education, recreation, ecotourism and applied and basic research. Transition zone is the outermost zone of a biosphere reserve. In this zone non-destructive human activities such as settlements of tribals and cultivaion of crops, etc. are allowed which are necessary to sustain the life of tribals.
