  Translocation The transport of food from leaves to all plant parts through phloem tissue is called translocation.                                                                                                                                                                                                 (1) Mechanism of Translocation in Plants Translocation occurs in sieve tubes in upward and downward direction. Energy from ATP is utilised for this process. Various theories are given to explain the translocation. But Munch's mass flow hypothesis is the most accepted one.                                                                                                                                                                       (2) The sieve tubes are helped by then- companion cells for translocation. Sieve tubes are made of living cells.
