The Story of My Life Helen, when she was young, did not understand the consequences of her acts and indulged in childish pranks. With the passage of time, Helen came to know many things and one of them was how to use a key. One day she locked her mother in the pantry for three hours. Her mother kept pounding on the door and Helen laughed with glee, as she felt the vibration of the bounding. Because of this incident her parents thought that she should be taught as soon as possible. Hence, Miss Sullivan was called. Once Helen's mother gave her something to give to Miss Sullivan. But she gave the thing to the latter, locked Miss Sullivan in her room and hid the key under the wardrobe in the hall. She was implored to tell where the key was but she did not speak of it.
