    Let mean proportional =M \[\therefore \]      \[(x-y):M::M({{x}^{3}}-{{x}^{2}}y)\] \[\Rightarrow \]   \[{{M}^{2}}=(x-y)\times ({{x}^{3}}-{{x}^{2}}y)\] \[=(x-y)\times {{x}^{2}}\times (x-y)\] \[\,={{x}^{2}}\times {{(x-y)}^{2}}\] \[\therefore \]      \[M=x\,\times \,(x-y)\]
