Answer:
(i) Radioactive radiation emitted by the nuclear fuels in the nuclear plant were affecting the functioning of body organs of Lakshman. These radiations are (a) highly penetrating and can damage living tissues (b) capable of affecting photographic plates and cause ionisation. (ii) Scientific awareness and concern for Lakshman's health.
