\[1\text{ }kg\] water of specific heat \[1\,cal/{{g}^{o}}C\]  kept in a container at \[{{10}^{o}}C\]. If \[50g\] of ice at \[{{0}^{o}}C\] is required to cool down the water from \[{{10}^{o}}C\] to \[{{0}^{o}}C\] the water equivalent of container is (Latent effusion for ice \[=80cal/g\] and specific heat of water is \[1\,cal/{{g}^{o}}C\])

    A)  \[1\,kg\]

    B)  \[2\,kg\]

    C)  \[3\,kg\]

    D)  \[\frac{1}{2}\,kg\]

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

    As, from the colarimetry, we know that \[\theta =ms\Delta \theta \]                 \[\therefore \]     \[(m+1000)\times 1\times 10=50\times 80\times 10\] (Because, heat lost - heat gained) \[\Rightarrow \]               \[(m+1000)=4000\] \[\Rightarrow \]               \[m=3000g=3kg\]
