A gaseous mixture contains \[C{{H}_{4}}\]and \[{{C}_{2}}{{H}_{6}}\]in equimolar proportion. The weight of 2.24 litres of this mixture at NTP is -

    A) 4.6g

    B) 1.6g

    C) 2.3g

    D) 23g

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

    Equimolecular proportion means both gases occupied equal volume \[=\frac{2.24}{2}=1.12\,L\] For \[C{{H}_{4}}:22.4L\text{ }C{{H}_{4}}has\text{ }mass=16\text{ }gm\] \[1.12L\,\,C{{H}_{4}}\text{ }has\text{ }mass\text{ =}\frac{16}{22.4}\times 1.12=0.8gm.\] For \[{{C}_{2}}{{H}_{6}}\] \[22.4L\text{ }{{C}_{2}}{{H}_{6}}\]has mass = 30gm \[1.12L\text{ }{{C}_{2}}{{H}_{6}}\] has mass \[=\frac{30}{22.4}\times 1.12\] \[=\frac{3.0}{2}\,gm=1.5\,gm\] Total mass = 1.5 gm + 0.8 gm = 2.3 gm.
