The pair of compounds having metals in their highest oxidation state is

    A)  \[Mn{{O}_{2}},\,FeC{{l}_{3}}\]

    B)  \[{{[Mn{{O}_{4}}]}^{-}},\,Cr{{O}_{2}}C{{l}_{2}}\]

    C)  \[{{[Fe{{(CN)}_{6}}]}^{3-}},[Co{{(CN)}_{3}}]\]

    D)  \[{{[NiC{{l}_{4}}]}^{2-}},{{[CoC{{l}_{4}}]}^{-}}\]

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

In \[MnO,\]and \[FeC{{L}_{3}}\] oxidation states of \[Mn\] and \[Fe\]are \[+4\] and \[+3\] respectively. In \[{{[Mn{{O}_{4}}]}^{-}}\]and \[Cr{{O}_{2}}C{{l}_{2}}\]oxidation state of \[Mn\] and \[Cr\] are \[+7\] and \[+6\]respectively.                                In \[{{[Fe{{(CN)}_{6}}]}^{3-}}\] and \[[CO{{(CN)}_{3}}]\] oxidation states of Fe and \[Co\] are \[+3\] and \[+3\] respectively. In \[{{[NiC{{l}_{4}}]}^{2-}}\] and \[{{[CoC{{l}_{4}}]}^{-}}\] oxidation states of \[Ni\] and \[Co\] are \[+2\]and \[+3\] respectively. Hence, the pair of compounds \[{{[Mn{{O}_{4}}]}^{-}}\]and \[Cr{{O}_{2}}C{{l}_{2}}\]having metals in their highest oxidation state.
