How many atoms of calcium will be deposited from a solution of \[CaC{{l}_{2}}\]by a current of 5 mA flowing for 60 seconds?

    A) \[4.68\times {{10}^{18}}\]

    B)     \[~4.68\times {{10}^{9}}\]

    C) \[~6.46\times {{10}^{14}}\]

    D) \[~4.68\times {{10}^{23}}\]

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

    Given that Current \[(I)=25\,mA=0.025A.\] Time \[(t)=60\] seconds Now using \[Q=I\times t\] \[=0.025\times 60=1.5\,\text{Coulombs}\text{.}\] Hence, number of electrons \[=\frac{1.5\times 6.023\times {{10}^{23}}}{96500}\] \[=9.36\times {{10}^{18}}.\] \[Ca\to C{{a}^{+2}}+2{{e}^{-}}\] Hence 2 electrons are required to deposit a calcium atom. So, number of atoms \[=\frac{9.36\times {{10}^{18}}}{2}\] \[=4.8\times {{10}^{18}}\] Hence, the correct option is (a).
