    2. Mumbai is at the coast while Pune is located in the rain
    Codes:

    A)  Only 1 is true

    B)  Only 2 is true

    C)  Both 1 and 2 are true

    D)  Neither 1 nor 2 is true

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

[b] The main cause of heavy rainfall of about 190 cm in Mumbai is that this city is located on the coast. By contrast Pune, although only 160 km away from Mumbai, is located in the 'rain shadow' area of the Western Ghats. The moisture laden monsoon winds from the Arabian Sea are forced to ascend along the western slopes of the Western Ghats and cause heavy rainfall. When these winds descend on the 'leeward slope' of the Western Ghats, they become hot and dry and do not cause much rainfall. This is the season that Pune receives only 50cm rainfall in contrast to 190 cm by received by Mumbai.
