Which of the following statements is not true regarding Westerlies?

    A)  They blow from sub-tropical high pressure belts to sub-polar low pressure belts.

    B) They cause heavy rainfall on the eastern margins of the continents.

    C) They are deflected due to the earth's rotation.

    D)  They are best developed between \[40{}^\circ \] and \[65{}^\circ \] latitudes.

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

Since westerlies blow from south-west to north-east in the northern hemisphere and from north west to south-east in the southern hemisphere, they do not cause much rainfall on the eastern margins of the continents but cause heavy rainfall on the western margins of the contents. This is due to the fact that these winds absorb plenty of moisture from the oceans before reaching the western coasts of the continents.
