  • question_answer
A body weights slightly more at the poles than at the equator because:

    A)  The attractive force at the poles increases due to the ice cap

    B)  The earth is the flat at the poles

    C)  The earth has the maximum speed of rotation at the equator

    D)  None of these is a complete explanation

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

Weight of the body is the force with which it is attracted towards the centre of the earth. As the distance of the pole is less than the distance of the equator from the centre of the earth, the force of attraction is higher on the body at poles than at the equator. Hence the weight of a body is greater at pole than at the equator.
