Samira sells newspapers at Janpath crossing daily. On a particular day, she had 312 newspapers out of which 216 are in English and remaining in Hindi. Find the ratio of the
    (a) number of English newspapers to the number of Hindi newspapers.
    (b) number of Hindi newspapers to the total number of newspapers.

    Answer:

Given, total number of newspapers sells = 312
and number of English newspapers sells = 216
\[\therefore \] Numbers of Hindi newspapers sells
    = Total numbers of newspapers
    ? Number of English newspapers
    \[=312216=96\]
    (a) Ratio of English newspapers to the numbers of Hindi newspapers
\[=216:96=9:4\] [dividing by 24 in both ratios]
Hence, the ratio of number of English newspapers to the numbers of Hindi newspapers is \[9:4\].                      (b) Ratio of Hindi newspapers to the total number
    of newspapers
\[=96:312=4:13\] [divided by 24 in both ratios]
Hence, the ratio of number of Hindi newspapers to the total number of newspapers is \[4:13\].
