When Chinmay visited chowpatty at Mumbai on a holiday, he observed that the ratio of North Indian food stalls to South Indian food stalls is \[5:4\] If the total number of food stalls is 117, find the number of each type of food stalls

    Answer:

Given, ratio of North Indian food stalls to South Indian food stalls \[=5:4\] and total number of food stalls =117 Let the number of stalls \[=5x\] and \[4x\] [where, x is a multiple of food stalls] \[\therefore \] Sum of ratio of stalls \[=5x+4x=9x\].                                                                                               If sum of ratios is equal to the total number of food stalls then,             \[9x=117\Rightarrow x=\frac{117}{9}=13\]                                                                                                         \[\therefore \] Number of food stalls of North Indian \[=5x=5\times 13=65\]                                                                                                                            and number of food stalls of South Indian \[=4x=4\times 13=52\]                                                                                                                            Hence, North Indian stalls is 65 and South Indian stalls is 52.
