    Think, discuss and write:
    (i) Is \[(16\div 4)\div 2=16\div (4\div 2)\]?
(ii) Is there an associative property for division?
    (iii) Discuss with your friends. Think of \[(28\div 14)\div 2\] and \[28\div (14\div 2)\]?

    Answer:

    (i) L.H.S. \[(16\div 4)\div 2=\left( 16\times \frac{1}{4} \right)\div 2\]
          \[=4\div 2=2\]
    R.H.S. \[16\div (4\div 2)=16\div \left( 4\times \frac{1}{2} \right)\]
                \[=16\div 2=8\]
                \[2\ne 8\]
    So        \[(16\div 4)\div 2\ne 16\div (4\div 2)\]
(ii) No, there is no associative property for division because from the above solution.
    \[(16\div 4)\div 2\ne 16\div (4\div 2)\]
    (iii) \[(28\div 14)\div 2\]  \[28\div (14\div 2)\]
       \[=2\div 2\]               \[=28\div 7\]
         \[=1\]                      \[=4\]
    \[\therefore \]    \[(28\div 14)\div 2\ne 28\div (14\div 2)\]
Thus, associative property for division does not hold.
