There are some passengers in a stationary railway compartment. The centre of mass of compartment itself (without passengers) is\[{{c}_{1}},\] while centre of mass of compartment plus the passengers is\[{{c}_{2}}\]. If the passengers move inside the compartment [The surface on which compartment is at rest is smooth]

    A)  both \[{{c}_{1}}\] and \[{{c}_{2}}\] will move w.r.t. ground

    B)  neither \[{{c}_{1}}\] nor \[{{c}_{2}}\] will move w.r.t. ground

    C)  \[{{c}_{1}}\] will move but \[{{c}_{2}}\] will remain stationary w.r.t. the ground

    D)  \[{{c}_{2}}\] will move but \[{{c}_{1}}\] will remain stationary w.r.t. the ground

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

As no external force in acting on (compartment + passengers) system, so \[{{c}_{2}}\] remains fixed, But as passengers move inside the compartment, friction force between compartment and passengers feet acting on compartment displaces its centre of mass.
