  • question_answer
For the reaction \[A(g)+2B(g)\rightleftharpoons C(g)+D(g);\] \[{{K}_{C}}={{10}^{12}}\]If the initial moles of A, B, C and D are \[0.5,\text{ }1,\text{ }0.5\]and \[3.5\]moles respectively in a one litre vessel. What is the equilibrium concentration of B?

    A)  \[{{10}^{-4}}\]

    B)  \[2\times {{10}^{-4}}\]

    C)  \[4\times {{10}^{-4}}\]

    D)  \[8\times {{10}^{-4}}\]

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

                      \[A(g)+2B(g)\rightleftharpoons C(g)+D(g)\]
    At \[e{{q}^{n}}\] \[0.5-x\] \[1-2x\] \[0.5+x\] \[3.5+x\]
    \[\approx \,y\] \[\approx 2\,y\] \[\approx 1\] \[\approx 4\]
(due to very high value of equilibrium constant) \[{{10}^{12}}=\frac{1\times 4}{y\times {{(2y)}^{2}}};y={{10}^{-4}};[B(g)]=2y\Rightarrow 2\times {{10}^{-4}}\]
