Two particles of masses\[3\,kg\]and 2 kg are moving with velocities\[{{\vec{v}}_{1}}=2\hat{i}\]and\[{{\vec{v}}_{2}}=3\hat{j},\] respectively. The first particle of mass 3 kg has an acceleration of\[{{\vec{a}}_{1}}=2\hat{i}+2\hat{j}\]while acceleration of the second particle is zero. The centre of mass of these two particles follow a

    A)  parabolic path

    B)  circular path

    C)  straight line path

    D)  elliptical path

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

\[{{\bar{v}}_{CM}}=\frac{{{m}_{1}}{{{\vec{v}}}_{1}}+{{m}_{2}}{{{\vec{v}}}_{2}}}{{{m}_{1}}{{m}_{2}}}=\frac{6\hat{i}+6\hat{j}}{5}\] and \[{{\vec{a}}_{CM}}=\frac{{{m}_{1}}{{{\vec{a}}}_{1}}+{{m}_{2}}{{{\vec{a}}}_{2}}}{{{m}_{1}}{{m}_{2}}}=\frac{6\hat{i}+6\hat{j}}{5}\] Since\[{{\vec{v}}_{CM}}||{{\vec{a}}_{CM}},\]centre of mass follows a straight line path.
