    Statement I \[C{{H}_{3}}OH\] and \[C{{H}_{3}}C{{H}_{2}}OH\] can be distinguished by iodoform test.

    Solution :

     \[mv\,\sin \,{{\theta }_{1}}-mv\,\sin \,{{\theta }_{2}}=0\] gives iodoform test, i.e., it forms yellow crystals of iodoform when treated with \[{{\theta }_{1}}={{\theta }_{2}}\] and \[mu=mv(\cos \,{{\theta }_{1}}+\cos \,{{\theta }_{2}})\] but \[=2mv\,\cos \theta \] does not give this reaction. \[[{{\theta }_{1}}={{\theta }_{2}}=\theta \,\,(say)]\] \[\cos \theta =\frac{u}{2v}\] \[\frac{1}{2}\,m{{u}^{2}}=\frac{1}{2}m{{v}^{2}}+\frac{1}{2}m{{v}^{2}}\] Only those \[{{u}^{2}}=2{{v}^{2}}\] alcohols which have \[u=\sqrt{2}\,v\] unit give positive iodoform test. Thus, statement II is false.
