JEE Main & Advanced Sample Paper JEE Main - Mock Test - 30

  • question_answer
Six identical conducting rods each of resistance R are connected in such a way that they form a regular triangular pyramid as shown in the figure. A battery is connected across A and C. Which of the following is correct?

    A) \[{{V}_{A}}-{{V}_{D}}={{V}_{B}}-{{V}_{C}}\]

    B) \[{{V}_{B}}-{{V}_{D}}={{V}_{D}}-{{V}_{C}}\]

    C) \[{{V}_{A}}-{{V}_{B}}=2({{V}_{A}}-{{V}_{D}})\]

    D) \[{{V}_{B}}=2{{V}_{D}}\]

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

[a] Section ABCD forms a balanced Wheatstone bridge. Therefore \[{{V}_{B}}={{V}_{D}}\].Hence current in branch ABC and ADC will be equal. It means the potential difference across the resistances connected between A & B ,B & C, A & D and D & C should be equal. It means \[{{V}_{A}}-{{V}_{D}}={{V}_{B}}-{{V}_{C}},\] hence option (1) is correct.
