GURT can be of two types V-GURT (Variety-specific GURT) and T-GURT (Trait-specific GURT). V-GURT is used to make future generation of seeds sterile, while T-GURT is used to suppress certain traits of the plant, unless applied a special treatment such as a special spray. GURT is still at a research stage and has not been produced commercially.
