    [d] Lavani comes from the word Lavanya which means beauty. This is one of the most popular form of dance and music that is practised all over Maharashtra. It has in fact become a necessary part of the Maharashtrian folk dance performances. Traditionally, the songs are sung by female artists, but male artists may occasionally sing Lavanis. The dance format associated with Lavani is known as Tamasha. Nattupura Pattu originated in Tamil, the folk music consists of Gramathisai i.e. village folk music and Gana i.e. urban folk music. Giddha is Punjab's most famous folk dance for women. In Giddha, the women enact verses called bolus, folk poetry. and dance. The subject matter of these bolis induce everything from arguments with the father-in-law to politics affairs. The dance rhythm is set by the dhols and the distinctive handclaps of the dancers. These days, people associate Giddha with Bhangra.
