    [a] The President appoints a member of the Lok Sabha as the Speaker Pro-Tern. Usually, senior most member is selected for this and the President himself administers oath. Office of the Speaker Pro-Tern is temporary and ceases to exist once Speaker is elected. However, Speaker Pro-Tern has all the powers of the Speaker, presides over the first meeting of Lok Sabha and main duty is to administer oath to new members.
